LICENCE CATEGORIES EXPLAINED

The difference between Progressive Licence & Direct Access

DIRECT ACCESS...

From 24+ you can obtain your full Motorcycle licence (Category A) without any previous experience. You will have to complete a CBT, Theory Test & two-part practical test but you will then be able to ride a bike of unrestricted engine size. This is known as Direct Access (Direct to a full licence).

PROGRESSIVE LICENCE...

The term 'progressive licence' merely means that you progress through all licence categories (A1 & A2), allowing you to obtain your full Category A motorcycle licence at the age of 21. You will start with a CBT & Theory Test but the two-part practical test will be repeated for each licence category you are obtaining.

Each category has it's restrictions on age & the size of

Motorcycle you can ride.

Read the following for more detailed information on all categories and their restrictions.
